Wedding Trend Report: Going Green

Greenery has been all the rage for a few years now. You might be surprised to hear that not only is it sticking around, it seems as though we may be seeing more green in the next couple of wedding seasons.

I’m getting more requests for greenery bouquets this year. Surprisingly, brides are asking for greenery bouquets not because of cost, but because of how gorgeous a well made greenery bouquet can look. A floral bridal bouquet really pops when put next to green bridesmaid bouquets.

This greenery trend doesn’t mean the loss of all color – the greens make the floral accents look even brighter.

The other way that weddings are going green this year is by creating eco-friendly weddings. I have two weddings this year that are attempting to be waste free. Let me tell you, I LOVE THIS TREND. Don’t worry – you don’t have to sacrifice beauty in order to be earth friendly. Recycled stationary is just as pretty as non-recycled. Vintage dishes add a romantic touch to table settings. Compostable glasses function in the same way that recyclable ones do – the only difference is the the bottom says compostable!

Seriously, trying to eliminate waste at your wedding doesn’t make you a tree hugger. It actually may even save you some money. For example, don’t print a program for every guest – we generally just end up picking hundreds of them up anyways. Instead, do one large sign at the back of the ceremony area. This will save you money and eliminate waste.

Personally, I love the tendency towards green. Unlike cupcakes, I’m not sure I will ever get sick of greenery. Greens are just so versatile. There are so many types of green to choose from. We also live a pretty green life here on the farm – we have a geothermal heating/cooling system, we compost a ton, and we look forward to having solar panels installed in the next couple of years. This trend gets two thumbs up from me.

Pro Tip: Ask your vendors what eco-friendly options they have. You would be surprised that most vendors now are offering green alternatives at nearly the same cost as the less eco-friendly options. Not sure where to start? Let’s Connect.
